in spades; a key player in the setting up of processes to ensure the tracking and monitoring of partner force soldiers, he has mentored the training team’s MPAs to ensure they understand the processes in place and was the key continuity in the Admin Office, dealing admirably with any of the G1 issues the 1000+ residents brought him.
Support to Gurkha Soldier Selection
In May Lance Corporal Raj Rai deployed on a 3-month detachment to his native Nepal to assist with the training and administration of potential British Army Recruits. Tasks included registration and preparation of recruits, administrative tasks such as confirming the identity of
recruits and proofing their applications for any errors. He was also a mentor to the recruits, providing vital insight into the life of a British soldier having successfully navigated this pathway a few years before. LCpl Rai cited his time assigned to this task as the most rewarding of his career and he encourages others to volunteer to support where able.
Sport
Lance Corporal Sara McColl recently trav- elled to New York to represent the AGC in Basketball. This included ten days of Basketball training, with friendly and competitive games being held at some prestigious locations around the concrete jungle. Her performance merited a call-
up for future training and an invitation to play regularly for the squad. She was also selected for The British Army Badminton Development squad after a phenomenal run at the pre-training week and subse- quent inter-corps championships. She will represent the Corps in future competitions with an eye on pushing for a place in the Army squad next season.
Corporal Vakacegu, an Army rugby team regular, recently participated in Level 2 Rugby which was sponsored by Rugby for Heroes, attaining a pass. She looks for- ward to putting it into practice and getting involved with Community Engagement.
Corporal Amy Gardner and Lance McColl participated in the North Midlands Championship festival of sports, gaining second place for rowing, which contrib- uted to the Light Dragoons securing first place in the overall standings.
Keen to offer additional value outside of his core role, LCpl Rai is soon to attend the AAPTI course, he promises not to let the power go to his head and forget that he has MPA responsibilities too!
