                                 Cllr Val Carter was elected Chairman of the Council and Mayor of Thrapston for the year 2021-22 at the Annual Meeting in May. Each year the Mayor chooses a charitable cause to raise funds for. Cllr Carter has chosen to support the Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service (NDAS). She said, ‘In my previous career in the police force I saw time and again how difficult it can be to break the pattern of domestic
  abuse. I admire the work done by NDAS and want to shine a spotlight on the charity, while also raising much needed funds to support their work.’
NDAS began under the name of Northampton Women’s Aid in 1976. Originally staffed by volunteers the organisation has evolved but has always been dedicated to helping and supporting the victims of domestic abuse within Northamptonshire.
NDAS currently run seven refuges for victims fleeing domestic abuse
and resettlement programmes as well
as specialist outreach support for adult victims and children that have witnessed domestic abuse. The organisation also offers training sessions for professionals that support families affected by domestic abuse.
