Coronation Gardens
Coronation Gardens is a seating area on Oundle Road, next to St James’ Church. In 1953 local Girl Guides volunteered to plant beds with Queen
facilities. The grant also helped to fund a beautiful new poppy shaped seating area which offers a space for quiet reflection. In addition the new scented rose garden and multi-sensory garden offer a feast for the senses. The designs acknowledge the memorial history of the Peace Park.

Elizabeth roses and other flower beds and the area was named “Coronation Gardens” in honour of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation anniversary. The land was purchased by Thrapston Town Council
in 1993 for £1.00 plus legal costs and Coronation Gardens reopened in 1994 following a refurbishment. The Gardens served the town well for many years
and in 2016 Thrapston Town Council commissioned a complete makeover with new paving, benches and noticeboard,
The Peace Park has children’s play
equipment for all ages, including an
enclosed under-5s play area. The Peace
Park is ideally situated directly across the
road from Thrapston Primary School and many children use the play facilities on their way to and from school. The space has been made more secure by fencing recently installed along Market Road.
As well as being a popular leisure space all year round, the Peace Park is also used as a venue
for the whole community to get together at Town Council events.
to mark the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Following vandalism to the Silent Soldier figure a local fundraiser, started by resident Sophie Starsmore, raised almost £4,000. In conjunction with the Royal British Legion, Thrapston Town Council installed
a stunning new memorial to the town’s fallen. The town now has the names of the fallen on a permanent outdoor memorial for the first time. Thank you so much to all who donated.
