Thrapston’s residents can look forward to several public events each year. The Town Council tends to put on three ‘biggies.’ The Events & Community Engagement Committee organises, along with smaller events, the Party in the Park, a free firework display and a Christmas Festival.
There is also a big street fair each year that is organised entirely by volunteers, not the Council. The independent Charter Fair Committee normally organises the event for the last Saturday in June. For 2021 the fair was held in September due
to COVID restrictions. You can follow them on Facebook @ThrapstonCharterFair.
In September 2021 the Town Council
hosted its first large-scale event in a long
while; the Party in the Park. National
Lottery funding was secured for a big
Street Party in 2020, to mark 75 years
since VE Day with the intention of
bringing the town’s different generations
together and to welcome the new
residents who have recently moved here. Unfortunately, plans were scuppered and
instead the Council waited until 2021
to bring the town together at the Party
in the Park. The weather couldn’t have
been better and the turnout was fantastic.
Thanks to everyone who came along, and to the East Northants First Responders for providing First Aid cover. Thanks also to Dominos and Morrisons, who helped keep all the volunteers fed and watered.
Winter begins with a bang, fizz, pop and ‘ooooh!’ at the Fireworks display. The show dates are set; for 2021 and 2022 the event will be on 5th November (easy to ‘remember remember’) 6:45pm for a
7pm show. The display takes place on the Sports Association grounds on Chancery Lane. Please walk if you can, to avoid traffic congestion. Later in the month the town looks to the past to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety. Remembrance events include a service on 11th November at 11am at Coronation Gardens. On

Remembrance Sunday a further service will take place at 11am at Coronation Gardens. Later in the day the parade will set off along the High Street at 2:45pm with a 3pm service in St James’ Church.
The Christmas Festival is held on the last Saturday in November and combines local on-stage talent with fabulous food, drink and festivities. For the 2021 event the Plaza will be open for residents to rest, enjoy a glass of mulled and enter the charity hamper raffle. Proceeds from the Plaza bar and raffle will go to the Mayor’s Charity Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service. The fairground will attend the Festival, and guests can enjoy some top-quality street food, or grab a bite from one of Thrapston’s High Street eateries.
