There has been a school on the Thrapston Primary School site since the 1860s. Up until August 2015 there was both a Primary and Middle School on site, but King John Middle School closed, and
the buildings were amalgamated into Thrapston Primary School, which now has over 500 children on roll, covering reception to Year 6. The main school day runs from 08.45am until 3.10pm.

Prince William School is a secondary school and sixth form located in Oundle, 8 miles North of Thrapston. The school was built in 1971 and named in honour of Prince William of Gloucester whose family home, Barnwell Manor, is a few miles away. Prior to 2015, Thrapston students were part of the three-tier Primary, Middle and Upper School system but as of 2015, Prince William School reopened as an academy and now provides education from year 7 through to sixth form, with around 1,200 students on roll. Prince William School is part of the East Midlands Academy Trust.
