Introduction to Civilian Service Rifle Shooting at Bisley
In September I had the opportunity to attend Bisley National Shooting Ground for an afternoon introduction to the Civilian Service Rifle as a personal training and development activity.
Coming from a shooting family, and having found a passion for the sport, sadly I found my course commitments have limited me from being available to progress my shooting as much as I wanted within the Unit but they have been nothing but supportive in helping
me find opportunities to shoot outside the unit.
Having experience on the L85A2
at CUOTC made the Civilian Service Rifle my first choice. I shot a Southern Gun Company Straight pull AR15 rifle in .223/5.56 on Century Range out at 600m with the benefit of the Electronic target marking. Seeing where the rounds were landing allowed me to focus on my Marksmanship principles.
I received instruction from the attending coach and my brother, an
experienced target rifle shooter, which lead to improvements in my supported prone shooting particularly when adjusting for wind at this longer range.
As a member of CUOTC and British Young Shooters Association, I look forward to returning to Bisley, shooting CSR again and trying some different shooting disciplines.
