B (Malta) Company
Company HQ
2018 has been a busy year for B (Malta) Company. It started with the company on notice as the UK Standby Battalion and we then very quickly transitioned to conducting an armoured assault demonstration for
the Prince of Wales when he visited the Battalion in February.
Simultaneously, the company prepared for and then delivered elements of
Ex URBAN DAWN 1 – a package designed to demonstrate the range of UK urban training facilities to SNCOs and junior officers from across 1 Armoured Infantry Brigade. This saw the company stretched across 5 sites in the southern half of the UK delivering an ambitious package ranging from subterranean tunnel exercises to Marker Round street clearance drills.
The company then almost immediately deployed to Copehill Down village to conduct Ex URBAN DAWN 2 – an exercise designed to test different ORBATs
and equipment to identify the optimum Armoured Infantry Company Group TASKORG. We spent a week assaulting the streets of the village, integrating search and attack dogs, tanks, EOD experts, experimental UAVs, information activity specialists, electronic warfare specialists to name but a few!
Spring brought with it a deployment to Castlemartin Ranges where we achieved the first Coy level integrated armoured
live firing there for several years. Summer leave breezed by followed by the capstone activity for the company and the Battalion – the deployment on Ex SAIF SAREEA
3 in Oman. The company performed outstandingly well throughout the exercise, setting and maintaining high standards consistently.
