    Company HQ – Maj Whillock
HQ Company has once again delivered in another intense year. 1 MERCIAN has taken part in multiple events both in the UK and abroad during 2018. As always, this is never down to one person or department. Many departments gel within HQ Company and teams work relentlessly in the background to ensure that the Battalion is always sustained and ready to deploy at all times.
Throughout the year the HQ Company took part and supported many exciting challenges ranging from, Battle Craft Syllabus, URBAN DAWNs 1 & 2, Castlemartin, BATUS and Ex SAIF SAREEA 3 in Oman. These were only just a few opportunities that allowed our soldiers to develop in their trades and showcase their skills in a variety of challenging situations. I would like to say a big well done and offer recognition to all of our soldiers, as they have worked very hard to produce high standards and success within HQ Company and 1 MERCIAN. This was highlighted on Ex SS3 where all elements of HQ were tested, at every level, in arduous desert conditions supporting, feeding and tracking 800 personnel as well as the movement and maintenance of 300 tracked and wheeled vehicles.
With the exercise spread over 200kms and the constant heat of the desert new challenges arose on a daily basis.
During this period, we must not forget the unsung heroes
who remained back
in Bulford as part of
the ROG. This was led by the Quartermaster, Maj Chatts Chatterley, and WO2 Buckley,
with the RAO Capt Si Foster ensuring that the Battalion was prepared and successful for
pending audits, whilst still conducting Regimental duties within the garrison.
I would like to say a fond farewell to the last OC, Maj Ozzie
Osbourne, who retired into civilian life after a full military career of 36 years.
As 2019 arrives,
HQ Company look forward to taking on the future challenges, where we will continue Real Life Support to the
Battalion and assist with Op CABRIT, Op ORBITIAL and BCS.
I know our soldiers will continue to embrace all challenges to the highest standard in a quest for both their personal development and the overall mission. HQ company leadership remains strong and will continue to strive for the best in our individuals and as a whole for the Battalion.
