                                    QM’s Dept
Another eventful year has seen the QM’s Department support a number of training exercises both in the UK and overseas.
This coupled with the ever-present assurance regime has ensured that the department was well tested throughout. WO2 Warburton the MTWO/ESWO has continued to drive forward Equipment Care across the battalion, supported by his small but very effective team; no mean task given the amount of equipment held versus the small number of permanent staff to maintain it. He was subsequently awarded for his efforts receiving a Brigade Commanders Commendation.
This year the Battalion ATX consisted of various cadres, which in itself presented a number of logistical issues with training split between Warcop and Swynnerton. As usual the department dug deep and all training was successfully supported. Sgt Woolaston deployed forward to Warcop to manage the Mortar Cadre ammunition whilst Sgt Read and Cpl Lane supported the remaining cadres in Swynnerton. It was noted that as
Sgt Woolaston had done such a great job, he was invited back to do the same
for 1 MERCIAN a few
weeks later! The Battalion
Patrols Competition
took place near
Leek, Staffordshire
and while providing
the usual G4 support
the RQMS, assisted
by West Mercia Search
and Rescue, with whom he is a volunteer, also provided safety cover for the water obstacle crossing serial. The crossing was successfully completed
by all company teams with “assistance” only being required on one occasion.
There have been many departures and arrivals within the department over the past 12 months. The QM, Maj O’Connor
left to take over as XO, the QM (Tech), Capt Jones became
the Community Engagement Officer, the RQMS, WO2 Tyrer
promoted to WO1 and took over as BCMO, WO2 (RQMS)
Heywood moved back to his parent cap badge and took over a new position
with 5 RRF and CSgt Newell moved across to
CIS. New arrivals included Maj Travis taking over as QM, Maj Johnston as QM
(Res), WO2 (RQMS) Chamberlain as RQMS, WO2 (RQMS) Pratt
was welcomed back into the fold as RQMS (Res), CSgt Roddis on a short attachment from
2 MERCIAN and Cpl Chambers into the MT Department. We
wish them all well in their new appointments.
