In March one of our PSIs, CSgt Smith, took a group of Officer Cadets and a subaltern to 3PARA. There, the Regimental 2IC provided a glimpse into battalion life and the regiment’s airborne capabilities.
The troops watched a boxing match between 3PARA and 4SCOTS, and
even strapped into a practice parachute, dangling mid-air in shirt, chinos, jacket and tie for comical effect!
The CO, Lt Col Ryan, also arranged a ski trip with the Adjutant General’s Corps in Austria. There wasn’t much of a choice between staying at university or two weeks of skiing for the three Officer Cadets who went. The trip was naturally very well- received.
Twice the citizen
The President of the Events Committee, OCdt Morgan, launched the Twice the Citizen project this year.
“This project sees each Company challenge one another to raise as many funds as possible for charities of choice, and will draw on our competitive spirit,” says OCdt Morgan.
“This is a real opportunity for us to make a difference in our communities that should not be taken lightly.”
And Twice the Citizen has been a resounding success. Kohima Company ran a collective distance of 350km. Montgomery Company climbed the height of Mount Everest while Clarke Company completed the Coventry half-marathon.
This combined effort meant a total of £10,691.65 has been raised for four military and civilian charities.

This training year, thirteen BUOTC have attained an AOSB Briefing pass. Ten have so far passed Main Board. Among those on the Regular
Commissioning Course at Sandhurst are five of our alumni. A total of nine have commissioned as regular officers in the army.
With more Officer Cadets interested in a career in the military, BUOTC continues its century-old legacy of creating officers to lead men and women in the British Army.
