Pre-deployment training (PDT) is crucial
to a Unit’s deployment. Understanding
the theatre, creating robust and effective training and delivering professional instruction is the MTMC CSgt’s prerogative. MTMC is a dynamic organisation; ever- changing Operational theatres mean
that instructors must remain current, constantly changing their approach to ensure deploying troops understand what’s required. Having the chance to create training from real-time situations is a niche that a lot of our peers don’t get opportunity to do. Project management from theatre
to the training area tests the creativity and experience of the CSgt. Of course, the MERCIAN Regiment has
a hand in the MTMCs
relevance to help enhance pre-deployment training.
CSgt Gareth Rigley focuses on Op TOSCA. During his posting at MTMC he has delivered six public order courses in 2018 allowing students to become competent
as an ECO or member of safety staff. Additionally, the team is responsible for delivering all aspects of the Op TOSCA pre- deployment training. While at MTMC, CSgt Rigley has also had the chance to attend two skiing expeditions in Tignes, France.
CSgt Gary Hill delivers training for Op SHADER, instructing on a variety of lessons on All Ranks Briefs (ARBs) and Mission Rehearsal Exercises (MRXs). Observing and
   success.
The MERCIANs have
a large footprint in
Bassingbourn. CSgts
Rich Joynes, Chris
Williams and Rob
Brookes are part of the
team that delivers PDT
for the British Army’s
flagship Operation in Afghanistan, Op TORAL. The recent uplift of British troops
in Kabul has increased the workload for the team. Dragon Coy 2 MERCIAN deployed
at short notice to HQRS and the TORAL team had to create accurate training to make sure that they deployed in good order. CSgt Joynes also had the opportunity to work with the Royal Bermuda Regiment in Bermuda, where he helped train their Public Order company and, of course, enjoy the culture of the Island.
CSgt Franks operates as the G2 SNCO. Gathering accurate and timely information from theatres such: as Op TORAL, Op SHADER, Op TURUS, Op TRENTON and Op TOSCA amongst others. He collates and analyses all sources of information and intelligence from theatre to determine its
Mentoring SpIBs is a new concept to MTMC and CSgt Hill has had the opportunity to influence their training to best prepare them for STTT across the globe.
MTMC has now moved from Shorncliffe in Folkestone to
Bassingbourn in Royston as part of Project HERCULES in line with CTTP (Collective Training Transformational Program); a program designed to drive efficiencies
by establishing a centre of excellence for mission specific training. This will see the amalgamation of MTMC (Collective) and MTMC (Individual) currently stationed in Chilwell, Nottingham, operating under one roof.
Being based in Bassingbourn has a lot of potential, being centrally based compared to Kent makes it an attractive posting. Working in a grown-up environment allows for a lot of job satisfaction. Working and living in an area that has a direct rail link into the heart of London and a 15-minute drive into Cambridge centre has positively impacted the Soldiers work, life and family balance.
Project management from theatre to the training area tests the creativity and experience of the CSgt.
