In 2006, when I was asked to take on the job of edi􏰀ng Out Birding, li􏰁le did I think that I would produce 70 edi􏰀ons - this being the 70th. By their very nature, they have all reflected the club’s values but, to me, this one stands out as a beacon of the GBC’s worth, highligh􏰀ng our generosity, friendship, knowledge, social ac􏰀vi􏰀es and much more.
Event reports are as much about making and maintaining friendships as they are about the birds, and those in this issue are no excep􏰀on. The enjoyment of being with friends, sharing pleasure in nature, comes through in them all.
Rachael’s story on pp 18-19 shows how GBC friends are to be found further afield than our immediate area.
There are many references to the dona􏰀ons from the Conserva􏰀on Fund which we made to Gibraltar Point Observatory and Ughill Farm near Sheffield. Ann’s ar􏰀cle about that project pp 20-21 gives us the back- ground. Ann has undertaken to arrange a visit should members wish.
Sue has set a challenge to make a start on taking photographs for the 2025 Annual Calendar. That will be our 30th anniversary year so let’s make the calendar even more a􏰁rac􏰀ve.
On that note, you will find on p 22 details of our special Anniversary Grand Get Together which we hope will be held in the Sco􏰂sh Highlands. An email about booking will be sent by Liz very soon.
Pam has shared with us a trip she made to California pp 20-21 – with a Shania Twain concert on the side!
There is quite a bit of club business this 􏰀me including a summary of the recent commi􏰁ee mee􏰀ng. Please let me know if you value having this informa􏰀on or not.
