deploy to, we pride ourselves on delivering best prac- tice and the highest standards of professionalism. In the past, training establishments have regularly com- mented on how SCOTS DG are a class apart, and that our approach and collaboration with external organisations ensures our troops gain the best possible training experience. It was with this in mind that, in March, we headed out of Leuchars Station to South Wales and Castlemartin Ranges. The QM department led the way, ensuring that our firing troops would be well received at CMR. Needless to say, the G4 team, under the command of the QM and RQMS, supported an excellent range package, with the DIO staff at CMR commentating that SCOTS DG were amongst the best they had worked with. It was also during this period that Battlegroup Headquarters headed to Wales and Templeton Training Area (basically a runway with sheep) to conduct ‘Mini CAST’. The training offered Captain Pring, the RSO, and Sgt Barrett, Command Troop Sgt, the ideal opportunity to begin understand- ing how best to move a Light Cavalry HQ around a battlefield. The exercise, conducted in freezing condi- tions, offered a perfect steppingstone from the comfort of in-barracks staff training to the more arduous expe- rience of field training. Command Troop team were
particularly impressive, delivering very detailed bat- tlecraft lessons to the entirety of BGHQ, most notably LCpl Menassa, who prepared and instructed a quite superb camouflage and concealment lesson.
April saw a changing of the guard as SSgt Sean Wright moved from the post of SQMS into the Training Wing; for almost 3 years as SQMS we thank him for his dedicated service to the Squadron. Coming the other way. SHQ welcomed SSgt Andy Colclough from the Training Wing -he had big shoes to fill and he hit the ground running, immediately thrust into Wessex Storm preparations and quickly realising the Squadron Leader has a ‘good idea’ at least twice a day!! Additionally, during this period, the Squadron bid farewell to the QM(T) Captain ‘Malky’ Hendry, head- ing for a demanding job at 51X. Loyal and passionate about the success of the Regiment, his service as a Late Entry Officer has been of the highest order: we wish both him and his family all the best, and hope we will see them back soon enough. The Regiment Sergeant Majors handed over and the newly commissioned Captain Tam McCann took over as HQ 2IC / MTO, with Captain Chart moving over to the dark corridors of the QM(T) Department. Also, during the month of
