future, and even when tiredness became a significant factor, the troops were always in good spirits.
After a well-deserved period of summer leave, we continued with the delivery of G4 support to both B and C Squadron for their deployment on Exercise KHANJAR OMAN. Again, another extremely busy period ensuring both Squadrons deployed in good order as part of the Royal Irish Battlegroup. Both SQMSs deserve a huge amount of credit for the work they put in ensuring a successful deployment to and recovery from Oman.
In time honoured fashion, the QM Department prides itself on not only working hard but also on playing hard and two troop events stand out from the year. In October we took the opportunity to have a department educational day which was organised by Sgt Musson. The entire QM team headed to Edinburgh Castle for a very informative history brief, coupled with a guided tour of the castle and visit to the Regimental Museum. The visit was very well received and offered a great opportunity for our RLC personnel to become acquainted with the rich history of the Regiment. After the visit, being in the capital city, we obviously took the opportunity for some Grassmarket troop bonding!! A great day had by all.
As Christmas has approached, the department took the opportunity for some team bonding with a visit organised by Cpl Pragnall to the ‘Escape Room’ in Edinburgh, an indoor games complex focussed on team building mission activity. It was during the axe throwing event that Cpl Kilaiverata managed to put
the frighteners on the instructor, although the QM did achieve the impossible by throwing 2 axes at the same time, both hitting the bullseye. LCpl Briandt eventu- ally ran out the worthy winner.
We now look forward to 2022, which will see several range periods and exercises, B Squadron becoming part of the 1RIRISH Battlegroup deploying to OP NEWCOMBE and the Regiment conducting MST before deployment at the end of the year. It will be extremely busy, but I have every confidence the G4 team will remain focussed, proactive, and, as always, provide excellent support.
A fantastic year with huge thanks to all who have worked in the Department, with a special congratula- tions to Capt Taylor and Cpl Pragnell who have both been selected for promotion.
