LCpl Cartledge, Cpl Hill, Cpl Hughes and LCpl Thom marching as part of the Attached Arms during the his- toric parade in Edinburgh. A proud moment for all those involved.
September saw Capt Clancy, LCpl Cartledge and LCpl Thom deploy on Ex KHANJAR OMAN, provid- ing Real Life Support. Capt Clancy deployed with a Pre-Hospital Trauma Team (PHTT) from 3 Medical Regiment, LCpl Cartledge with B Squadron SCOTS DG and LCpl Thom with C Squadron as the OPFOR CMT. Despite the challenges of heat and a complex med plan, all gained from the experience in deliver- ing overseas deployed healthcare as well as gaining additional skills in vehicle maintenance, comms and operating in the battlegroup space.
Despite all the activity of the year, the UAP contin- ued to support the DPHC medical centre delivering its core firm base activity. The UAP provided a daily duty medic, allowing service patients to be seen as soon as possible where medical need demands, as well as nurse and medic vaccination clinics, audiograms, medi- cal appointments and occupational health reviews.
Working around trawls and taskings, delivering train- ing and career courses, it can be a difficult requirement to meet all the demands, but the additional clinical time is always welcomed by the CMTs enabling them to be well prepared for further deployed activity.
As the end of the year approached, the UAP saw a number of personnel changes. We said goodbye to our Med Sergeant, Sgt Moloney who moved back down to Catterick joining 32 Engineers, and welcomed Sgt Fergusson from 2 SCOTS. In addition, Cpl Hughes moved down the corridor to join 2Bn REME as their CMT and we will welcome Cpl Goodfellow from the HCR UAP in early 2022. 2021 has been a busy year with the UAP again showing its flexibility in deliver- ing medical care in a wide variety of settings to the highest of standards. 2022 will see the UAP getting into an operational mentality as we prepare for deploy- ment on Op NEWCOMBE towards the end of the year as well as supporting B Squadron in their preparation to deploy in the summer.
