The Cross Country team have returned equally impres- sive results, with placed finishes in each of the Scottish Region Tri-Service League events. Leuchars is not known for hilly terrain, so the tenacity and determina- tion of our runners has come to the fore with some of the courses set for these events being particularly chal- lenging and making the most of the Pentland Hills just outside of Edinburgh...
A decision on winter sports finally came from Army HQ in November which authorised a limited return to snow and ice. Well-laid plans were quickly brought into action and the Nordic team deployed to Norway alongside the Royal Lancers and Light Dragoons to undertake an intensive training camp ahead of the Divisional and Army Championships. The Alpine team were less lucky, with the Austrian Government bringing in a new layer of restrictions that prevented the Regiment’s return to Alpbach until the week before Christmas. This didn’t stop them from making the most of the time available however, with training progressing to a good standard ahead of the start of the competitive events in France.

cancelled due to a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in France, and our skiers would not compete again this year. They have however laid firm foundations for next season and have benefited enormously from the gen- erosity of the Regimental Trust to who, as ever, we are extremely grateful.
With major exercises, mission specific training and operations looming it is likely that 2021 will be a chal- lenging year to field our most competitive teams, but rest assured that all that can be done to prepare for a long-awaited return to full-scale sport has been done. The good name of the Regiment will be upheld on the pitches, tracks, wickets, and courts and for another year.
