                                BRANCH REPORTS
Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch
After last year, when everything was cancelled apart from the Association Golf tournament, it was hoped to reschedule the 2020 events for 2021. Unfortunately, another lockdown scuppered this. The postponed annual branch dinner was rescheduled for 27 March 2021, only for that also to be cancelled as was the Armed Forces Day parade in Glasgow. Eventually, we did open up and, once again, rescheduling took place.
Association Golf tournament
This year’s golf tournament took place at the Drumoig Golf Course on Friday 17 September 2021. There was a great turnout from both the Serving Regiment and the Association. We owe a big thank you to all those who helped organise the event, especially Lieutenant Colonel Billy Raitt, Hunter Maxwell and, of course, Sandy Fowler who recorded the day’s play through his camera lens. Special mention must also be made of Frankie Mellon, the chief cheerleader.
Congratulations are due to all the winners: Association Trophy - Kenneth Robertson One and Only Trophy - Will Brown Stableford 1st Place - Kenneth Robertson Stableford 2nd Place - Will Brown Stableford 3rd Place - David Thomson Longest Drive - Daniel Kennedy
Nearest the Pin - Will Brown
Most Golf Played - Adam Collins Two’s - Eddie Miller and Will Brown
The tournament for 2022 is already in the planning stage. Hopefully we will see some ladies taking part in future.
West of Scotland Bowling Unfortunately, due to a backlog of club competitions, we were unable to book a suitable date for our event this year. It is planned to have an even better one next year.
Opening of the Garden of Remembrance
This event was held on George Square on Tuesday 26 October 2021. The garden was opened by Lt Gen Sir Alastair Irwin KCB CBE, National President of the Royal British Legion Scotland and Poppy Scotland. Four members of the Association attended this event.
Remembrance Sunday Service This event took place on Sunday 14 November. Some thirty members of the Branch, along with WO2 Jacqueline Taube from the Regiment, attended the service and the march past afterwards. Two wreaths were laid, one for the Regiment and one for the Association. Due to restrictions, there was no reception held in the City Chambers this year, however a gathering did take place in a drinking establishment afterwards.
