Ex WAVELL’S WARRIOR is a Sandhurst Exercise for the Reserve Commissioning course that takes place on STANTA training area. We were there to play enemy. On arrival we were each handed a weapon, 4 mags and a handful of ear defenders. Playing enemy against
the potential officers on the Army Reserve Commissioning Course 162 began to feel real. At this point we could tell from the amount of ammunition we had been given, that the week ahead would be busy! Having been shown our sleeping arrangements, we met the rest of the enemy team – 19 other OCdts that had come from Manchester, Exeter and Northumbrian UOTC.
Over the following 6 days we; fought against numerous platoon deliberate attacks – including multiple advance to contacts, attacked the platoons harbour, fighting against the platoons fighting patrols, a night recognisance patrol,
an ambush and fighting against a company deliberate attack. Generally a typical day comprised of being given orders, being transported to various locations around STANTA, waiting on anticipated attacks, administration, raining down fire on the opposition, more
administration, then back to camp to relax. Why would I recommend playing enemy?
Apart from having a relaxed week blank firing
and getting paid for it, I also gained an immense insight into the format of the Army Reserve Commissioning Course. This has helped prepare me for when I complete the course myself.
