The annual rhythm of the Regimental Journal provides an opportunity to proudly reflect on events that have taken place over the past year and to glimpse ahead to the near future. This forward to the 4th Battalion’s activities over the period of 2023 chimes with the format of previous editions and it is indeed with great pride that I offer you in these next few paragraphs a short precis of the last twelve months of Battalion life.
As a small cog in the military machine, the relentless pace at which the Army continues to operate, transform, and modernise has directly
impacted 4 MERCIAN throughout the year. Most significantly so, the UK’s resolute commitment
to Ukraine and the centrepiece task of Op INTERFLEX has allowed us to Mobilise soldiers and officers in support of this activity, deploying them to Longmoor to work alongside Regular counterparts and international partners to train Ukrainian service personnel. Maj Deepe Rawji and his team have performed superbly over the past
6 months, and it is fantastic to know that in 2024 more 4 MERCIAN personnel will be Mobilising for the next rotation, to ensure the name of the
   4MERCIAN
