“Change is the only constant”. Written 2000 years ago by Heraclitus, and as true then as it is now for D Coy 4 MERCIAN today.
A new OC and PSAO since the last issue, three new platoon commanders, and in the very near future, full changing of the guard in the permanent staff, which in an Army Reserve context is almost unheard of.
However, D Coy are going from strength to strength, with a number of personnel deployed on Op INTERFLEX, a fantastic result for Cpl Grant leading a D Coy heavy Cambrian Patrol to a well deserved Silver medal, the completion of a mountain biking trip AT trip to Cyprus in September and the D Coy Guns cadre held at Oakhampton.
2024 will see D Coy with a new complement of permanent staff prepare to deploy to Poland on a challenging multinational exercise, with a plan to see a D Coy Pl Comd lead the Cambrian Patrol
again, and see a number of personnel make that hardest of promotions, by gaining their LCpl.
MCpl Alyson Michalko (CAN) will return to Canada at the end of her attachment to
4 MERCIAN, at the same time 2Lt Hulme will take up an attachment with a Canadian unit for up to 2 years.
We look forward to the coming year and the challenges it will bring.
