                                OBITUARY
ADAM
Capt Peter George ADAM, of Ludlow, died on 4 April 2023 aged 88. Peter, a member of the OTC Leeds, reported to The WORC
R Depot at Norton for
his National Service in September 1956 and was immediately sent
to Officer Cadet Training at Eaton Hall OCS. He was commissioned into The WORC
R on 1 February 1957. Between 1957-58,
he served with 1 WORC R in Jamaica and the Bahamas. On completion of National Service, in September 1958, he returned
to the UK and joined the 7th (TA) Bn and continued his TA service until 1969. He was a very fine shot returning to Bisley for many years and was a member of the TA50. He was a support weapons specialist trained on the 3” mortar, 17 Pdr A/T gun and the BAT as well as the Vickers MMG.
AMPHLETT
Lt Col Gordon AMPHLETT MVO MBE, of Brecon, died on 10 January 2023 aged 87. Gordon was SWB and RRW and served as the Technical Quartermaster in Ballykelly and West Berlin
between1972–75 with 1 WFR.
BALL
Graham BALL died on 14th November 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment in Suez.
BARTON
Major Sean BARTON died on 22nd February 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment and AAC.
BAYNES
Cpl Malcolm ‘Malkie’ BAYNES died on 10 March 2023 aged 73. Malkie enlisted into the Army in April 1967 and following the completion of his basic infantry training
at Lichfield, joined The WORC R and
served with the Regt in Gibraltar, Bulford and Cyprus before taking part in the Amalgamation Parade. His first posting with 1 WFR was Warminster, where the Regt carried out the role of Demonstration Bn. He then moved to Berlin and then NI. During his service he was Team Captain of the Regtal football team. He discharged from the Army on 1 January 1975.
BEARDSMORE
Cpl Kevin ‘Skippy’ BEARDSMORE, of
Walsall, died on 16 May 2023. Skippy first joined the Light Infantry & Mercian Volunteers which in turn went on to become D Coy
2 MERCIAN (V) where he rose to the rank of Cpl. Skippy went on to join the 1st Bn The Staffordshire Regt and served in the UK and NI where he was attached to the 1st Bn The Cheshire Regt.
BENNET
Bill BENNET died on 23rd April 2023. He served with the HSF 3rd Battalion The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment.
BENNET
Capt Jeremy BENNET OBE TD, of Yeovil, died on 20 July 2023 aged 89. For his National Service, he was posted to 68 Trg Regt RAC in Catterick. On completion of basic training he was
selected to attend Officer Training at Eaton Hall. On commissioning he joined the 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters in Derna, Libya. Following his discharge, Jeremy joined the 5th Bn The Sherwood Foresters in Derby where he served sequentially as a Pl Comd, Regtl Signals Officer and Intelligence Officer. When work took him to Chester he was invited to join the local TA Brigade staff. The remainder of his military service was with The Cheshire Yeomanry and in May 1967 Jeremy was awarded the TD. He was appointed OBE for services to the Wine Trade.
BRAZIER
Cpl Lewis ‘Lew’ George BRAZIER, of Worcester,
died on 29 July 2023 aged 81. Lewis enlisted in January 1960 into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers as a Rifleman
until 1969. He then served with 2nd Queens Bn from 1970-75 and
from 1976-83 as a B1 Field Engineer in the 2nd (TA) Mercian Volunteers, 4 WFR & HSF Worcester. He was trained in demolitions, was an SLR Marksman and GPMG Mortar and was a NI Section Comd. Lew served in BAOR, Kenya, NI, Belize, Gibraltar and the UK. He was awarded the GSM, UN, GSM NI and Queens Jubilee medals and was discharged from regular service in 1984.
BRESNAHAN
Peter BRESNAHAN died on 20th November 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment in Malaya.
BROADBENT
Arthur (Bill) BROADBENT died on 18th April 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment between 1956 to 1973.
BROOKS
Pete BROOKS died on 30th January 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment.
BRUMBY
  BRUMBY CSgt Bernard ‘Brum’ BRUMBY, of Stockport, died on 23 October 2023 aged 75. Brum joined B Coy 7th Bn The Cheshire Regt at the Armoury Stockport in After his recruit training
February 1965.
Bernard joined the Mortar Pl. In 1967
the 4th and 7th Bns The Cheshire Regt were amalgamated to form A Coy The Mercian Volunteers, later to become A Coy 1 MERCIAN V. Brum’s Pl won the Div Mortar Competition and he later became the Pl 2IC. In the late 70’s the mortars were all moved to Birmingham and Brum took on the role of Rifle Pl Sgt at Stockport where he ran the Coy shooting team and lead the winning team on several march and shoot competitions. For a period of time, he was the CQMS and in 1982, as a CSgt, became a Pl Comd. Brum finished his career with
A Coy 1 MERCIAN V in 1987 having served over 22 years.
  BRYAN
Christopher BRYAN, who served with The Staffordshire Regiment, died on 8th January 2023.
CARSON
Major Roy CARSON died on 22nd January 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment.
COGSWELL
Capt Martin COGSWELL died on 24th December 2023. He served with the 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment in Malaya.
COLLIER
WO2 (ORQMS) Joseph ‘Joe’ Alan COLLIER died on 19 March aged 76. Joe enlisted into the 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters
on the 26 July 1966 and then served with
1 WFR and became Chief Clerk. Joe was discharged on 7 September 1988 and went on to become NRPS with 1 MERCIAN (V) as ORQMS. He was awarded the GSM NI and LS&GC medals
COTTERILL
Pte William George COTTERILL, of Dudley, died on 4 July 2023 aged 90. William served in The WORC R, in Malaya, around 1951 - 1953.
CRISP
Dmr Dave CRISP, of Burton- on-Trent, died in 2023. Dave was a member of the North Staffords and the Mercian Volunteers Corps of Drums based at Burton on Trent . He also carried the Burton
Standard of the MVRA.
