A COMPANY TAKE
MAJOR ROLE AT THE
HEDON CIVIC PARADE
By 2Lt Sharon Barr
On Sunday 6th October A Company, attended
the Hedon Town Civic Service Parade; a Civic
Celebration for the 677th Mayor of Hedon, Councillor
Colin Billany.
The Company gathered together to prepare for
the parade, checking each other’s uniforms were
in tip top condition, musical instruments were
ready and in good order. It wasn’t long before
the Company Sergeant Major was sizing off the
Company, in anticipation of marching onto the High
Street, where they were going to be inspected by a
Deputy Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire,
Colonel David Fuller OBE MNM DL, and the Mayor of
Hedon, accompanied by the Officer Commanding A
Company, Major Richard Lenton.
Following the inspection of the parade, the Mayor
joined the column along with his guests, to be led to
St Augustine’s Church for the Civic Service, by the
musical talents of the Humberside & South Yorkshire
ACF Band. Following the Church service, it was time
for the company to form up once again, for a march
past, where the Deputy Lieutenant and the Mayor

took the salute from the dais which was located in
the Market Place.
Once the parade was over, those who took part
were invited to join the Mayor and his guests at
Alexandra Hall for refreshments.
Deputy Lieutenant, Colonel David Fuller said:
“I was delighted to be asked to represent the
Lord-Lieutenant at this service as Hedon has a
special place for me with memories of parades here
going back quite some time. The Mayor of Hedon
and the Town Councillors always make visitors feel
especially welcome and the bonus, as usual, is to see
old friends from HSY ACF on parade representing the
very best of what cadet service is about”.
