Chester Cathedral
Regimental Headquarters in Chester has received a copy of the proposals for the Cathedral Quarter and the effect that it will have on the Cheshire Regiment Memorial Garden. Chester Renaissance, the project managers consulted with the Mercian Regiment and asked for our approval, which has been given. Eddie Pickering who lives in the City is keeping an eye on things as they develop. The plan will go before the City Council.
Statue
The accomplished Sculptress, Maria Francia Puebla volunteered to make a statue of
a wounded soldier. This will be formally unveiled in the future when it has been fitted to a base, but Pte Dean Caudley from 2 MERCIAN volunteered to act as the model.
Dedication of New Plaques
On the 27th February 2011 there were two Dedication ceremonies of new plaques in memory of Private Shaun Taylor, who was killed in action the First Gulf War whilst serving with 1 STAFFORDS. The plaques were dedicated in St. Mary’s Church,
Old Swinford and Mary Steven’s Park in
Stourbridge.

Waynes Keep Cyprus
Brigadier Andrew Williams visited Cyprus and whilst there visited Waynes Keep, the cemetery where servicemen and women are buried. On the 4th September 2011 he laid a Regimental Wreath in memory of the four members of 1st Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment who lost their lives in the EOKA Campaign 1955 – 9.
The four soldiers were;- Private William Asprey Private Cyril Hewitt Private Sidney Ingram Private Raymond Banks
