                                BULKELEY- KIRKHAM Francis John Capt
of Pentrich, Derbyshire died on 9 March 2011 aged 76. He was called up as a National Serviceman in 1954 and served with the Royal Signals he then became a Lance Corporal in
M.E.L.F. Royal Military Police. He was commissioned in 1965 and served with AVRIII at Derby in 1968, the RAMC 222
E Mid Field Ambulance Leicester 1969-
71 and then moved to C Company 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment in Derby and served until retirement in 1977. Francis worked
for Bibby’s Corn Merchants as District Manager, as a Specialist Teacher at the Needwood School for the Deaf, Burton upon Trent, at Rossall School, Lancashire and in 1990 co-owned the Ashfields Residential Home in Heanor, Derbyshire.
A member of the Lions Club of Great Britain and a staunch RBL supporter he became Honorary President of the Heanor Branch and acted as Parade Marshall for the Heanor Remembrance Day Service. He became an elected Conservative Councillor serving as a member of Amber Valley District Council and Derbyshire County Council.
CHEADLE Robert Prebendary Robert Cheadle died peacefully in a nursing home on Monday 5th September 2011, aged eighty six. Bob enlisted into The South Staffordshire Regiment during WW2, but volunteered to serve in the Glider Pilot Regiment after Arnhem. He left the Army
in 1947 and was ordained as a Priest and initially worked in the parish of St. Luke’s Church, Hanley. He then spent many happy years running parishes in Bloxwich and Penkridge. He was asked to become Padre of the 5th/6th North Staffords and when
this became part of the Mercian Volunteers, he continued in post for many years. He
had a very happy family life, loved being a Priest and was very proud to be an Army Chaplain. He continued to take services for the Regimental Reunion and the Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association until
very late in his life and those who knew Bob spoke about him with both deep affection and respect for his WW2 actions. His funeral took place on Thursday 22nd September
at St. Andrew’s Church, Tarvin, Cheshire at 1330 hrs. He is succeeded by his wife Margaret, son Tom and daughter Kate.
COWLEY Lawrence Barry ‘Ginger’ Pte
of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire died on 16 November aged 65. He enlisted into the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters Regiment in April 1959 and served in Malaya. He was discharged on medical grounds in 1963.
COX Michael Mick Cox from Bloxwich died on the 11th July 2011. Mick served in 1st Battalion, The Staffordshire Regiment and served in the Derry Tour in 1974 with B Coy. He later became a PT Instructor.
CROMPTON James ‘Jimmy’ Cpl DCM
of Astley, Lancashire died on 12 March 2011 aged 89. He joined the 5th Manchester Regiment
on the outbreak of
WW2 and in 1942 was posted to Italy to join
the 14th Battalion The
Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He served with the battalion through to Anzio where he was wounded during the breakout. On recovering from his injuries he was posted to 1 KRRC with whom he won his DCM. After demobilization he returned to work
as a Colliery Deputy at Bickershaw Colliery and worked there until 1976 when ill health forced his retirement. He took up walking covering 10 miles a day until 2005 when
he suffered a second heart attack but continued to walk up to 2 miles a day.
CUSHEN James “Jimmy” WO2 of Hallow, Worcester died on 29 October 2010 aged 82. He enlisted into the General Service Corps in April 1946 until July that year and then transferred to the 1st Battalion The Staffordshire Regiment
with whom he served from August 1946 until October 1947. He then transferred to the Worcestershire Regiment served with them for 23 years 337 days. On leaving the Regiment he took up employment with Royal Mail.
DOBSON Bernard George WO2 of Misterton, South Yorkshire died on 9 March 2011 aged 74. He joined the Junior Leaders in Tuxford, Nottinghamshire before joining the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters
in Derna, North Africa in January 1955. He served with the battalion in UK, Germany, Malaya and Northern Ireland before moving to the Long Service List in 1976 as a Recruiter in Chesterfield. He left the Army in 1978 having completed 23 years service.
EDWARDS Frederick “Todd” Pte GC of Wednesfield, Wolverhampton died on 20 November 2010 aged 78. He joined the Worcestershire Regiment as a National Serviceman and served in 12 Platoon D Coy from January
1950 until January 1953. He served in Malaya and was with Arwang Anak Rewang at the time that he won the George Cross. After discharge from the Regiment he took up employment as a bricklayer.
ELLIS Ronald William Ron Ellis died at home in Tamworth on the 27th September 2011 aged 91. He was originally from Smethwick and worked in Toc H before the War. In 1940 he enlisted into The South Staffordshire Regiment at Whittington Barracks, but later transferred into the Royal Signals. He served with them for six years and after his demobilisation, worked with GEC in Whitton for several years and did other jobs as well. He married his wife Mabel in 1941.
He will be remembered primarily for all
his work with the Staffordshire Regiment Association and Royal British Legion. He was Secretary of Tamworth Branch of the Regimental Association and later became Chairman and did both jobs simultaneously until he died. He was also a stalwart of Tamworth’s British Legion and there were fourteen Branch Standards at his funeral, which is an indication of how highly he was regarded. He took part in many parades and helped organise many events, but
was also involved in welfare work and was regarded as a genuine person, who lived for his family, friends and local community. His funeral took place at St. Editha’s Church, Tamworth on Friday 14th October.
EMERY Stan Pte of Tividale, Warley, West Midlands died on 22 April aged
77. He served with the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment in Malaya.
EVANS Alan CSgt of Beechdale, Nottingham died on 7 May 2011 aged 79. He enlisted into the Grenadier Guards at the age of 171⁄2 and then transferred to the 1st Battalion Royal Leicestershire Regiment. After serving in Hong
Kong and Korea he was then posted to Germany. He transferred to the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters Regiment and served in Malaya and Ireland. He was then posted to the TA Centre, Bilborough, Sutton in Ashfield and Beeston and latterly Foresters House Chilwell.
EVANS Keith Sgt of Littleover, Derby died on 10 February 2011 aged 72. He was a member of the Royal Engineers (TA) at Boythorpe TA Centre, Chesterfield as a drummer in the band and in 1964 due to cuts remained a cadre
member until 1971 when he transferred as a Sergeant to the 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment 9 Platoon C Coy at Chesterfield. He assisted in the setting up of 8 Platoon C Coy Belper in the mid 1970s and ended his service in 1980 as a Colour Sergeant at Chesterfield as Acting Platoon Commander. In civilian life he was a self-employed builder
