Kidderminster
Another hectic year with the Branch in attendance at Civic occasions, Regimental parades and memorial services. The Branch attended the re-dedication (together with members of the WFRA and the South Borders), of the Gheluvelt Memorial
in Gheluvelt Park, Worcester and the subsequent Service marked the successful end to the restoration project. The Branch attended Remembrance services at
Hales Owen, Kidderminster, Stourport
upon Severn and Malvern. The Standard, supported by members, attended the service of Dedication of the plaques to Pte. Shaun Taylor of the Staffordshire Regiment in St Mary’s Church Oldswinford and on
the Stourbridge War Memorial in Mary Steven’s Park. Late April saw the Standard and members on parade once again at the closing down ceremony of Norton Barracks, the home of the Worcestershire Regiment.
Funds had been raised for a number
of charities by car boot sales, quiz night, Sponsored walk through Wyre Forest, a sponsored 24 hour fish, golf day, sale of empty drinks cans, and Christmas cards. On the social front a clay pigeon shoot
was held at Tydessley Wood Range which brought back many memories of weekends on the Range, but enough said on that! A ladies river trip on the River Severn, a race night, a Christmas Party in conjunction with the Kidderminster Branch of the WFRA
at the TA Centre and a Branch meeting
at Stourport upon Severn, Royal British Legion Club followed by lunch afterwards. Members of the Branch have also attended social evenings held at the other branches.
A donation had been made to
‘Frontline Aid’ to send boxes to the
troops in Afghanistan and the Branch
are now supporting the members of the Kidderminster Platoon of 4 Mercian who have gone to Afghanistan. Members helped during the year include three members who were able to have a holiday at Weston Super Mare. The branch is
Lt Col Bridges making a presentation to Capt Jim Stewart
indebted to the hard work of the branch Welfare Officer and the support from the Royal British Legion. Representatives of the Branch have also attended Council meetings in support of the Presentation of the Freedom to the Mercian Regiment by towns in Worcestershire.
Mercian Volunteer Association standards at the ANZAC Memorial
Meetings are held on the first Sunday in the month at 1100hrs in the TA Centre and are attended by an average of 25 members, but not always the same people and the Branch is in contact with approximately 100 members via the internet.
 Nottingham
Major Chell reports on behalf the Branch. Sgt Phil Squires is now out of hospital and on the way to recovery. Sadly
WO2 Tex Kemp had suffered a stroke during Christmas
Saturday June 25th at the Robin Hood Rifles Club at 7.00pm. [1900hrs] [note the change of venue.] Unfortunately the Branch can no longer afford to use The
 and is now in a
wheel chair. Sgt
Squires is in touch
with him to see if
the Association
could be of help
and support. The
Branch Standard
has been paraded widely during the year at Crich, at Clifton, and Regimental parades. Its next ‘outing’ will be to Nottingham Castle for Badajoz day.
The next Social Evening will be on
TA Centre Triumph Road. Membership stands at 39, but new members are always welcome. The Branch was sad to record the death of Capt Robert Vallance, who was one of the
original members of D Company on the formation of Mercian Volunteers in 1967. Brigadier Wilkinson, Lt Col Jeavons and Capt Prior attended his Thanksgiving Service at Bister.
