Councillor corner
How well do you know your
Town Councillors?
Name: Diana Charles
How long have you
lived in the area? I have
lived in the area for 43
years, moving from
London with my late
husband to Thrapston
in 1975. We moved to
Denford in 1999 and I returned to Thrapston in 2016, after the death of my husband.
How did you find yourself working for Thrapston Town Council? I was elected to serve on Thrapston Town Council in 2015, but I had previously served for eight years during the late 1980’s - early ‘90’s.
What do you enjoy most about the role that you have? I enjoy my role as a Thrapston Town Councillor as I am passionate about the town and wish to do my best to serve our community.
What makes the local area special to you?
Thrapston is lovely town and the people are friendly and welcoming and support all of the events taking place throughout the year. We are extremely blessed with beautiful surrounding countryside, and we have a host of local talented groups and individuals.
Hobbies: what do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy keeping fit and healthy and I attend daily Yoga and Pilates classes at our local gym. I enjoy all types of music and I am the Vice Chairman of Thrapston Plaza Opera, actively involved with the costumes for the productions. I enjoy drawing, painting and fashion, and last year I helped to construct the Mosaic, which is in the town centre next to the library. I also like spending time with my friends and family, and I am a proud grandmother to two lovely granddaughters.

DOES THE WORD ‘OPERA’ PUT YOU OFF? DON’T LET IT!
This year Thrapston Plaza Opera will be performing Donizetti’s comic opera ‘The Daughter of the Regiment’ in February 2019, but this has been described as more of a pantomime than an opera and plans are afoot to make it just that!
Principal roles have been successfully cast at the auditions held in June, so now we are hoping to recruit some new members to join the chorus to form the regiment – ladies accepted!
Everyone is welcome to join the Chorus for this really fun production.
If you haven’t sung on stage before then now is the time to try – you won’t be alone. Reading music is not a requirement as the chorus parts are taught during the rehearsals. Age is no barrier. We are hoping to involve some children in the opera this year.
Chorus rehearsals start on Tuesday 11th September at 7.30 in St James Church Hall where we’ll discover more about the story, so come along, whether a regular singer or complete novice, you’ll be very welcome. Email: vincedavy@hotmail.com

Thank You
Thank you to everyone who has been knitting all the hats for the Christmas boxes. We now have more than enough to fill our boxes for this year, and probably some for next year, so no more hats please. We have nowhere to store them. However, if you would like to make puppets (dolls, clowns, teddy bears) we can certainly use those. Many thanks for all your hard work.
