                                       Early Jersey Royals
Well! my Jersey royals finally made it after all. These were the ones that were planted on Boxing Day last year. My first lifting was on the 2nd of April as I find it better to lift them whilst their young as the flavour is that much better especially when vraic [seaweed] is added to the soil as I did in September last year. This does make a difference to the flavour. I always make a point of harvesting the crop as early as
I can to beat the dreaded blight, which means that I don’t need to spray them.
 New Secretary for Jersey D.A
After being in the chair of the Jersey Association of the National vegetable society for 11 years I decided it was time to let somebody else take over and was hopeful that someone would eventually be interested in doing so. Well at last. I am delighted to say that Andrew Green MBE has kindly offered to take over as secretary for the moment with the idea of shadowing me for the position of chair at our next AGM. Andrew comes with a wealth of experience and at present is chair of Head way U.K. He is also a keen and active gardener.
My thanks also go to Chantal Quaeck who is retiring after two years as secretary.
