Letters
Dear Editor,
Please see attached photo of a forgotten bag of potatoes that my dad found in his shed! He is an avid reader of ‘Simply Vegetables’ and thought you might like it.
Kind regards,
Mark Jenner (on behalf of Brian Jenner)
This photograph was sent in early June and some years you could get away with planting them for a small late crop, but with the dry weather it would not have worked – Editor
The Major and The Mole
Moles are such delightful animals but can ruin your
veg patch however, on the plus side they provide some wonderful potting soil. Here is a poem entitled ‘The Major And The Mole’ written by Nigel Ball (Dorset NVS MEMBER).
Heaps of soil adorn the Majors lawn look out from the window frosted glass We would love to be that animal warm As the tunnels worn touch his grass
Why touch the root hairs on your nose Very sensitive I suppose
Twitching bump into a mate
Majors dinner party do not be late
People drinking eating ok ya
I will keep going munching burrowing Why have you got so many heaps you ask? Well, the catchers on holiday at last.
Major not happy spade at the ready Marching about yard stick handy Measure all and record heaps Catcher home tomorrow till he reaps.
Well I am off to fields afar
for a rest, before teatime feast
The catchers won’t catch me or my friends Major carries on moaning at least.
