2023 has been another extremely busy year, showcasing how robust and adaptable the catering department is, deploying on numerous UK and overseas operations to Cyprus, Kenya, Estonia, Germany, and Falklands islands supporting the Light Dragoons and 4th Brigade Trawls. The year started with LCpl Famer and Pte Morgan deploying on Ex HARAKA STORM. Attached to the catering team out there, they then deployed out to various locations catering for numbers up to 1200 in extremely arduous conditions proving they are both assets to the trade. Ex SPRING STORM brought new challenges for Sgt Brown, Cpl Kgaogano, Pte Clark, and Pte Elliott, being the lead catering support for the Ex, feeding numbers up to 1100 pax, all while being constrained by overseas contractors. While deployed, the team grasped the opportunity of taking part in Adventure Training, conducting Canoeing, Kayaking, Battlefield study, together with community engagement.
The department then deployed on CATT(G) in Sennelager Germany working in a busy multi use kitchen, giving the opportunity to work alongside other regiments, foreign chefs, and contractors, finishing with a brigade study day which saw the detachment of chefs cook up a storm in form of an enhanced BBQ in historic settings. Sgt Gurung and Pte Morgan deployed on OP CHAMBRAY again showing how adaptable the department can be by working alongside the RAF in hot and extremely busy conditions. The Light Dragoons catering department also lead with the feeding commitment to the Bismarck challenge. Feeding 800 pax on OFCS with a small team was a difficult task but the team once again delivered excellent results in harsh conditions, with the Light

The Catering Department, amongst all the deployments still managed to deliver many high standard functions across the regiment and Brigade, consistently showcasing the chefs’ culinary skills. Most notably, Sgt Brown catered at the 1 XX Command dinner night, which for his efforts received a GOC coin.
Pte Clarks commitment and dedication to continually learn and develop himself was awarded as he successfully passed his Army apprenticeship production chef L2. Withstanding multiple tasks and trawls throughout the year members of the department still found time for chari- table work consisting of Sgt Brown, Cpl Kgaogano and Pte Elliott competed in the Leeds Marathon race, raising money for cancer research UK amounting to just over £200 & Pte Clark taking on the 10 km Midnight run in Estonia.
Finally, towards the end of the year all the hard work has culminated in promo- tions for Cpl Kgaogano, Pte Elliott & Pte
