Annual General Meeting
Saturday 11th November – Bermondsey
The London Region held the 2023 Annual General Meeting in person on a day when, unfortunately, late travel disruptions made conditions difficult for almost all attendees. Nevertheless, and despite the added problem of political demonstrations, the slightly reduced attendance was still excellent.
The good news is that Penny Smith,
our heroic secretary, agreed to accept the nomination for another year and was duly voted in. This was a big relief to all the committee.
The sad news was that our past treasurer, David Spicer, had died in August.
Therefore, a new nomination for Treasurer was sought and Andrew Brodie was duly elected to the position. A new member was also elected onto the committee for the first time and so we welcome Rob Mellor onto our team.
The following were all nominated and re- elected for the coming year:

Committee: Alan Marsh, Jean Brodie, Paula Owen, Jeff Barber
As is the norm with all London meetings, the main feature is our guest speaker and the discussion which follows.
Mathew Frith, Director of Policy and Research at The London Wildlife Trust, was kind enough to spend part of his weekend to give us a
talk about Wildlife in the capital. London is a remarkably green city – this includes the LWT 38 nature reserves, the many parks,
gardens and open spaces and, of
course, the 740 allotment sites.
Mathew outlined the threats and
challenges to wildlife in London and
highlighted ways in which we all could
help. The resultant discussion was
illuminating. It was fascinating
listening to an expert enthusiast in his field and to learn even more about the wildlife surrounding us. We would like to thank Mathew and the LWT for all their work.
The next London Region ‘public’ meeting is scheduled for 9th March 2024 in Highgate, NE London. There will be
another fascinating guest speaker so please put
the date in your diary. Invitations will be sent
out in due course.
