A Battery – The Chestnut Troop’s
Adventurous Training Expeditions 2023 Capt Glanville RHA A Bty, The Chestnut Troop
ABattery, The Chestnut Troop have embarked on a number of summer expeditions in the period before embarking on Pre Deployment Training for Operation CABRIT.
Bavaria
The first expedition took the Battery to Bavaria, Germany. They spent four days kayaking on the lake and river, two days of thrill- ing klettersteiging and three days rock climbing around the region.
The kayaking was a great way to get the troop familiar with the water and to learn how to work together as a team. They paddled through beautiful scenery and even got to see some deer and other wildlife. One of the highlights of the kayaking was when they paddled through a narrow gorge. The water was fast-flowing and the walls were steep, but the troop members all managed to stay calm and paddle through safely.
The klettersteiging was a more challenging activity, but the troop quickly mastered the skills needed to climb along the rock faces. They learned how to use the various harnesses, and at some points were operating above cloud level.
The rock climbing was the highlight of the expedition for many of the expedition members. They got to climb some challenging routes, and they all felt a sense of accomplishment when they reached the top.... And a rush of adrenaline on the abseil back down!
