 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery
British Army Warrior Fitness Capt Murrison RHA O (HQ) Bty
It has been an exciting and promising year for British Army War- rior Fitness (BAWF) within 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, which has been going from strength to strength since its fledg-
ling foundation. Under the guiding stewardship of Capt Carter McLain, the RAO, he has created and driven the BAWF team within the Regiment from the ground up to a regular team in training. Having also created a community with Larkhill Garrison, there is a group of all abilities that train together on a Wednesday and foster a competitive spirit. BAWF is similar to Cross-Fit, in that it requires some technical lifts and combines strength and endurance with cardiovascular exercises. It is not a relaxed sport to be involved in, and everyone who attends training puts every- thing into each session, coming away sweaty, but stronger and with a sense of achievement.
Especially of note this year has been the female BAWF team, led by Capt Sophie Murrison, with Bdr Cottrell & Gnr Barrett, who came second in the HQSW BAWF day, an amazing achievement. The competition included lifts with cleans, front squats and over- head press followed by 2 gruelling circuit style events. The team pushed themselves to the limit and performed outstandingly.
1RHA BAWF has been handed over to Capt Lye and the team will focus on their technical lifts and strength before conditioning for the competitive season. The team is growing and the completion of the new weights area shelter has provided a fantastic place to train with brand new equipment, meaning the team is well resourced for the season ahead.
