1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery
As expected, the commitments of 1RHA continue to run apace well into 2024 and early 2025 as the Regiment will continue to be deployed in various scales around the world in support of UK Defence.
The 1RHA commitment to Op CABRIT (E) is enduring through- out 2024 and will see the last operational tours of duty for AS90 before it is replaced by the newly procured ARCHER system as 19RA take up the mantle of the Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup. The Regiment will have seen both the deployment of its already well-established Ch Tp and B Bty to Op CABRIT (E) as well as its newly incorporated L Battery.
1RHA’s own ARCHER systems will be going through their own UK fielding process throughout this period with personnel from all Batteries expected to be firing the system extensively over the coming years whilst the Future Mobile Fires Platform is confirmed. ARCHER will provide a unique opportunity for 1RHA to test its procedures and practices with a completely new gun and support limber, and fortunately the regiment has a litany of upcoming exercises over which to do so. 2024 will
see 1RHA deploying elements to Germany, the USA, eastern Europe, elements of the Middle East as well as a host of UK based exercises.
As well as resourcing Gun and Tac groups 1RHA continues to provide power and support to several other events; notably staff power to Bde HQ deployments, training support to our Ukrainian partners and JTAC support to overseas training with allies. In addition, from a less militaristic perspective, support to various sports, adventurous training opportunities and edu- cation packages.
The full calendar of commitments will come as no surprise to those who have previously served with the Regiment how- ever demonstrates the enduring high level of output required of 1RHA by The British Army. The end state of 2024 however sees 1RHA newly equipped, operationally experienced, and well exercised in all aspects, ready as ever to deploy as the firepower punch of an Armoured Artillery Regiment as part of 20th Armoured Brigade Combat Team.
