NVS Membership Report for Winter 2023-24 Edition
Following my health scare last
September and November, this will be
my first Membership Report since the
one that I compiled for the Summer 2022
SV Edition. I extend my thanks to Fiona
Shenfield who stood in for me during
my period of convalescing and to the

It is disappointing to note the high
number of expired membership
subscriptions currently experienced, with
the Southern Branch having the highest
recorded number. Having said that, the
figure of 185 is considerably less than
that recorded in April 2022 where there
were 228 expired subscriptions. Overdue
subscriptions remain fairly constant at 15
across all Branches which is generally
attributable to the delay between members
receiving their renewal notice and actually

took some of the load.
It has become apparent
that one person cannot
satisfactorily deal with
the management of the
NVS membership on
their own so we have
delegated some of the
duties to the Branch
Memsecs. They will
now be responsible for
issuing updated membership cards,
NVS Medals, Welcome Packs & SV
Mags to new members within their own
Branches. I will be responsible for the
overall direction that the membership
system operates, including maintenance
of the system and will continue to be
responsible for allocating membership
numbers to all new members across the
Branches. Where members renew by
cheque or where new members wish to
pay by cheque, I will continue to process
these cheques, including banking via the
Post Office on behalf of Branches where
SV and directly above your name) and surname as your reference when making the BACS transfer. Manual payment by cheque is still available so make cheques payable
to the National Vegetable Society (NOT NVS) and send with completed renewal form either to me or to one of the Branch Memsecs listed on the
