Manchester and Cheshire DA
We’ve had a quiet couple of months due to the room not being available for our meetings. In September we had a very interesting talk from Rachel who runs the website Don’tcropmenow.co.uk
In November we are having our annual quiz and buffet. I’ll try not to make it so hard this year.
I haven’t booked any speakers for next year as yet but as soon as I do they
will be available
on the NVS
website. And I will also email out to all on my email contact list. If you would like to be included on that list then please contact me at manchesternvs@ gmail.com
Our meetings will start again 5th March 2024 at The Hough End Police Club, Mauldeth Rd West, Chorlton.

John Ramsell
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of John Ramsell who passed away on Tuesday 5th of September 2023 aged 96.
John was a long-time member of the N.V.S. In 1993 he became chair of the D.A. and held that post until 2011 but remained on the committee till 2021. He was given his Fellowship in 2006
for his services to the D.A. and Northern Branch having been
a committee member for a number of years.
John was an excellent gardener and an active member of his local Allotment Society. He grew a wide range of vegetables on his two plots giving most of them away to friends, for the D.A. plant sales and for Bakewell and Derby Shows.
John looked after his allotment right until the last years of his life when sadly he had to go into a nursing home.
He looked forward each year to the County Show at Derby and Bakewell even in is nineties he would help to build the stands and dress the vegetables ready for display. On show days he would be at the front talking to members of the public from all parts of the world explaining how we grew such large vegetables.
John will be sadly missed by his friends. Our condolences go to his family.
