of growers and horticulturalists in any way possible. If you can help, please get in touch.
The season of talks started in October, beginning with Sarah Haisley – Sweet Peas for Everyone. Sarah shared her sweet pea journey, starting with never having grown sweet peas and working with Mr Sweet pea himself – Tom Atherton – some years ago. We learnt how to sow and
grow seed, save seed, nipping out tendrils and why, cordons, layering, multi stems, also Eskimo Nell and the BBC filming for Tatton which brought folk in droves the day after broadcasting. Sarah and her friend Catherine, brought along a fantastic selection of seeds for sale.
I was surprised at the October DA meeting with a presentation from Paul Henshaw, DA Secretary, with a Fellowship of National Veg Society award for service to the Society. I knew David Metcalfe had nominated me but had forgotten all about it. Thank you very much.
By pure coincidence, I found some notes yesterday from my first ever DA meeting
in 2009 which was David and how to grow giant onions.
