2018 AMS Athletics and
Tug of War Championships
– Team RADC
Maj Sarah Armstrong RADC
Wielding our largest team yet, Team RADC delivered an impressive performance at the 2018 AMS Athletics and Tug of War Championship finishing 8th/15 place in the women’s event and 10th/15 place in the men’s event. In the tug of war competition alone, Team RADC demolished the competition to achieve a mighty 3rd
place podium finish in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Athletics
First up our distance
runners took to the
stage in the 5000m.
Cpl Bell tackled the
12.5 laps with ease
(it’s nothing to an
athlete working her
way up to marathon
distance) and Maj
Padgett-Duncan
(usually sighted
running with her racing buggy along Queen’s Avenue) enjoyed the chance to use her arms again, both demonstrating an inspiring show of determination to bring valuable points home to the team. Maj Davies gave a strong performance in the 5000m, followed swiftly

by the 1500m; cracking work in the heat. Though the complaints came quickly with reports his “hamstrings were like stone” shortly afterwards!
In the throws, SSgt Beckett and Cpl Aderi-Igbekoyi narrowly missed qualifying for the discus final and as a result Cpl Aderi- Igbekoyi has vowed to set-up the first discus throwing club in Kinloss in preparation for next year’s event... Good luck with that!
In the javelin event, LCpl Lawati launched
some impressive throws however an administrative error with the tape measure left him criminally absent from the final.
Back on the track, LCpl Rudd made her debut on steeplechase duties (and without armbands for the water jump!). Well
volunteered, your fellow teammates definitely owe you for taking one for the team. Not one to shy away, Capt Blyth doubled-up
in two of the hardest track events, tackling the 400m and 800m in quick succession, and managing to cross the line still smiling
Capt Blyth and Sgt Gotora, the RADC’s very own Mo Farah and Usain Bolt
– apparently it still beats working in Brawdy! A star performance was delivered by LCpl Irving - our latest RADC athletic talent on the scene. She displayed several fantastic performances, clinching not just a silver medal in the long jump but a bronze in the 200m too.
In the relays, the ladies 4 x 400m relay performance was the race to watch. Anyone spectating would have thought we’d won gold such was the jubilation trackside from Team RADC as they watched LCpl Irving threw up the tartan to secure a 3rd place finish from 100 meters behind. Superb running, only bettered by the volume of cheering from Team RADC!
Although not competing for the RADC, notable performances were also made
by RADC athletes competing for their respective medical regiments. Capt Williams (currently of 5AMR) gave an impressive performance, clinching silver medals in
both the 200m and triple jump, whilst Maj
