Major Rene Cheema RADC
Having hounded and cajoled members of our Corps, across the globe, for articles on their exploits I have again been able to put together another edition of our Bulletin.
It is clear that opportunities, currently, for operational deployments are sparse for our Corps but the articles presented in this issue are testament to the fact that our personnel are still being afforded the chance to test their mettle in other ways, be it on military exercises, through competitive sport, adventure training or even individual personal achievements.
Exercise Askari Serpent, a habitual if not obligatory feature of the Bulletin, is a superb chance for our junior soldiers and officers to get out on the ground, participate in an overseas exercise and provide dentistry in field conditions amongst the backdrop of all the challenges the austere environment of the Kenyan bush has to offer. Exercise Askari Serpent 18 is no exception.
Sport, another staple of British Army life, is also on prominent display in every Bulletin issue, this year being no different. The successes of our RADC soldiers and officers in the varied arenas of sport are again proudly on show in this issue, with commendable performances put in by our RADC track & field athletes and netball players to name but a few.
Neither must we overlook the personal challenges and goals that we set ourselves, and this is particularly evident in Captain Rhys Watson’s success on P Company and Major Richard Smith’s Guinness World Record. My heartiest congratulations to you both.
But above all, fun seems to be a constant throughout many of the articles, be it on the snow covered slopes of the Alps, the wind swept hills of Yorkshire or in the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
I would like to thank Crest Publications for their continued help in producing this Bulletin, our sponsors for their financial support and, of course, all the contributors to this edition, who collectively embody the esprit de corps of the RADC. I will finish by making my perpetual plea for all of your continued support by providing good quality articles telling us of your achievements, successes and experiences.
Enjoy your bulletin.
