As the junior term, one sovereign’s parade and a well needed period of leave ashed beforeourveryeyes,theintermediateterm brought a fresh batch of new challenges, one of which was organising our very own expedition. Aweeksadventuroustraining,designedtotest our individual and team robustness both men- tally and physically. Easy peazy? Not exactly. After choosing what our medium would be, something relatively familiar to us, walking with large amounts of weight for a prolonged period
of time, we chose to
trek, and trek hard
at that. Our des-
tination of choice
was something of
particular ease for
our group of nine
(which included six
complete novices)...
the Swiss alps. With
the rise of student tuition fees, mess bills and other outgoings placing a reasonable grip on the majority of cadets nances, it can go with- out saying that the generous grant given by the Sandhurst Trust not only helped fund our trip but it absolutely made it viable. It enabled us to have greater scope on our destination and allowed us to look further a eld to transform the trip from being agreeable and reasonably testing to thrill- ing and in parts arduous.
After a short ight on our rst day of leave after the intermediate term we landed in Basel, a welcoming, vibrant city steeped with culture. We spent the rst morning exploring the town
