Buglers at Horse Guards
Colonel Carne’s Cross at Gloucester Cathedral
More can be found at Wells Cathedral, Bath Abbey and many other churches. Also at Wells Cathedral is the County War Memorial and Book of Honour listing those who died while serving in the Royal Navy, the Army and other services during the Great War. Returning to Taunton’s Vivary Park, a similar civic pride is evident and marked by a prominent memorial remembering all, irrespective of Service. Within Bristol and Gloucestershire the overall picture is very similar. The Regimental Memorial to the front of the Victoria Rooms at Queen’s Road Bristol is particularly simple and striking. The Chapel within Gloucester Cathedral and memorial at Gloucester Park are further ne examples and the civic memorial at the centre of Cheltenham’s Promenade re ects a consistency of approach that is seen throughout the length and breadth of the country.
