is holding a gathering at Wells Cathedral on 6th November during which Peter Snow will support both county and regiment by giving an address. Many will recall Peter Snow assisting The Ri es and the wider regimental family at Horse Guards, in 2016, where he delivered the commentary. Memories of this marvellous event are still fresh in the minds of Cadets and Association members alike. The Cadets remain an essential regimental pillar within our counties and resourcing groups such as the South West Cadet Training Team with quality instructors from The Ri es remains important. In addition visibility of the cap badge through compe- tition and training with Cadets, Reserve and Regular Battalions is as valuable today as it ever was.
Meanwhile, Mr George Cantello 4 SOM LI was the last of the veterans from the Glosters and Somersets to receive the Legion d’Honneur from the French Consul in Bath, Madame Josette Lebrat. Later George visited Normandy, on the Bath Branch organised trip, in memory of his fallen comrades.
Jack Eglington another Normandy veteran who was also awarded the Legion d’Honneur also made the journey. Meanwhile Colin Criddle another 4 SOM LI veteran who has done so much to assist the Associ- ation and the Somerset Military Museum has died. His obituary appears elsewhere.
Finally by the time the Bugle has been published Brigadier David Godsal will have long handed over the appointment of Ri es County Colonel Somerset to Brigadier Richard Toomey. We are most grateful for his support, as well as that of Tamsin, throughout his long tenure and wish Richard Toomey and Lisa well as the Somerset baton is passed once more.
