PEACOCK, Michael Anthony Preston (Mike) Major, TD – Late KOYLI/LI Mike died suddenly on 8th June at the age of 67 after a very short illness. He had been in good health and had arranged to  re a salute with his beloved 25 pdr  eld guns in support of the ABF. Mike was a solicitor by profession and a partner in the Leeds  rm of Dibb Lupton.
After university he served on a short service commission with 3LI in Northern Ireland. He joined 5LI in Yorkshire and became OC of B Company.
He later transferred to 8LI and was one of the  eld of cers to the colours when the Queen Mother presented them to the battalion at Nostell Priory on 15th July 1988. After retiring from Dibb Lupton he devoted most of his time to the restoration of two 25pdr  eld guns together with limbers and a Morris
Quad tractor. He was active in the formation of a re-enactment group based in Yorkshire and took part in many WW11 commemorations particularly the one held annually in Pickering based on the North Yorkshire Moors railway. He was pre-de- ceased by Anne, his  rst wife and leaves 2 children by their marriage, Sarah and Matthew.

SMART, Kenneth – Late KOYLI - Kenneth Smart sadly passed away on 11 Aug 2016 aged 93. Kenneth joined the KOYLI in August 1941. Joined the 14th Army in Burma/Mandalay. He was promoted to WO2 and appoint CSM of HQ Company. Kenneth also served with the West York’s (P.O.W.) from 23- 10-45 to 26-12-46 as a Weapons instructor and Battle School Instructor.
SMITH, James (Smudge) – 23682289 – Late KOYLI - Jim known as “Smudge” sadly passed away on 23 August 2016. His funeral service was held on 5 Sept 2016. Following a church service at St Georges Church, Lupset, Wake eld a cremation service took place at Wake eld Crematorium. The Malayan Veterans’ standard was carried by Harry Newton, the KOYLI (Wake eld Branch) was carried by Colin Cranswick, Last Post and Reveille was sounded by Peter Bate and the Exhaltation was read by Colin Ward.
STODDART, Roy Anthony – 14835937 – Late KOYLI – The Ri es Of ce Yorkshire was noti ed belatedly by Roy’s family that Roy had passed away on 13 Oct 16. He served with 2nd Bn KOYLI in D Coy.
TAYLOR, Vincent Howard – Late KOYLI (TA) - Vincent Howard Taylor passed away on 10th Feb 2017 aged 76. The service took place at Halternprice Crematorium in Hull on 6 Mar 17. Standards were carried at the service.
TERRY, Stephen Spencer – Late KOYLI - Stephen Spencer Terry passed away 1 Oct 16. His funeral was held 13 Oct 16 in Doncaster. Stephen served in the KOYLI in the mid 50’s serving in Aden and Kenya.
TOWNEND, Frank – Late KOYLI - Band CSJT Frank Townend passed away suddenly on 30th Sept. after becoming ill with pneumonia. His funeral was held at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium, Dewsbury on 18 Oct 16.
Frank joined the KOYLI band as a boy soldier and went on to server in the KOYLI/2LI Band playing Tenor Sax as well as a period as Bugle Major. Frank was very well respected by his fellow band members and enjoyed playing hockey for the battalion. Frank left the band to  nish his service in Wake eld as a
Permanent Staff Instructor with 5LI. After leaving the Army Frank worked as a Milkman for a number of years and also a period of time doing security at Bradford University. He was also a keen gardener.
TURNER, Les – Late KOYLI - Les Turner passed away on 26 Feb 2017 aged 76. The service was held on 9 Mar 17 at Barnsley Crematorium. Members of the Regimental Association attended the service. Standards and bugler were in attendance.
WARING, Roy, Legion D’Honneur – Late KOYLI - It is with sadness that we have learned of the passing of another of our KOYLI members. Roy Waring passed away on 29 Nov 2016 aged 90 just short of his 91st birthday. The small village church in Menston, West Yorkshire, was packed with family members, friends and villagers to give Roy the send off be tting that of the head of a large family of 8 children and 10 grandchildren and a respected member of the community. The church service was followed by a private burial before everyone came together in the village social club. Roy’s family expressed their sincere thanks to Adrian Waites and Colin Cranswick for representing the Regiment he was proud to have served.
WHARTON, Ernie – Late KOYLI - Ernie Wharton passed away at the beginning of September 2016 after losing his battle with cancer. Ernie had suffered a massive stroke serval years ago and was looked after at home by his loving wife Sheila. Ernie was cremated at Dewsbury Crematorium on 13 September 2016, both also served with Ernie
WOODWARD, Douglas – Late KOYLI - Douglas (Doug) Woodward, a stalwart member of Shef eld Branch, sadly passed away on 21 January 2017. Doug had a great sense of humour which he ably demonstrated on the Association trip to Eden Camp last year.
