JNCO Development Week
by Pte Hoodless 102 MWD Sqn
On the 12th of February 2024 a JNCO Development week was conducted. This consisted
of lessons to help develop newly promoted JNCOs and potential future JNCO’s. These lessons ranged from leadership and management to basic IT. They were all designed to prepare the newly promoted JNCOs on what to expect in their new responsibilities, which will come with the rank. Throughout the week there were various workshops, training sessions and team-building activities. Some of the main lessons were Dural’s, AGAI 67, Leadership
& Management. Each lesson had
its own important role to play in educating new and future LCpl’s. It was a chance for us to learn from experienced SNCOs and officers and for them to pass on some of their knowledge accrued throughout their careers.
19 people attended the week. Members from each of the sqns, including 101, attended, these ranged from senior Pte’s aspiring to promote this year to newly promoted LCpl’s. It was a great insight into the new roles and responsibilities that come with the rank, to allow these new JNCO’s to have a better understanding before starting their new roles.
During the week multiple speakers
from different departments came to speak to us. This ranged from RHQ to Section commanders. We also had a visit from APC. They came down and gave us an insight into how the boarding system works and more knowledge on MPAR’s and SJAR’s. Certain lessons were very beneficial as they had not come across these topics before so this gave them more knowledge that they can pass on
to others. Topics of all ranges were covered for example: MT issues, POSM, Time management, JSP 960, Welfare and G3. These lessons were designed to either give a starting knowledge from topics not seen before or to give even more
knowledge from topics already taught.
One lesson that I thought
was particularly important was Leadership & Management. This is because it delved into what a team requires to function successfully. It was a good insight into how the lower management must operate in order to build and maintain successful, efficient and functioning teams.
The whole week was instrumental in preparing the new and future LCpl’s for their ALDP’s and the subsequent life in a leadership role. It acted as a team bonding week for all attendees, which has led to more inter squadron cohesion.
