Ex NOMAD ELION 24
X NOMAD LION was an AGC led Esports event held at DST Leconfield from the 01 April
24 – 06 April 24.
The event was an 80-hour
continuous stream hosted on the streaming platform Twitch, in the hope to raise money for Motor Neuron Disease (MND), as one of the Esports members had recently lost a loved one to the disease.
This opportunity brought together SP from cap badges ranging from the RLC, AGC and the AMS. Including 4 x SP from the RAVC.
All participating members were divided into mix teams, to compete against each other in friendly expedition tournaments, covering the following games: League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, and
Call of Duty League. Due to an unpredicted incident with technical difficulties SP voluntarily brought their own gaming devices such as Play Stations, XBOX’s and PCs to share among the group to enable the fund-raising event to continue.
Varied mixed feelings were felt during the competitive games of League of Legends and Counter- Strike among the RAVC SP, as the four of us are more committed Call of Duty players. So, a steep learning curve was in immediate effort for us to learn the mechanics and overall game play.
2 x RAVC Personnel; LCpl Seddon 104 Sqn & LCpl Castle DATR were
on the overall winning team, consistently scoring high through all three games.
Other than the logistics of using personal equipment and technical difficulties with the facilities Wi-Fi output. The RAVC participants were happy to be part of the experience and look forward to having competitive games as a RAVC team against external units.
This event was an ideal opportunity to build cohesion within partner units and to raise money
for a great cause, allowing us all to come together and show support for a fellow colleague.

Regiment proudly unveils its state-of-the-art Esports Suite. This innovative I
n line with the evolving landscape of modern warfare and recognizing the importance of mental wellness and cohesion among soldiers, 1 MWD
facility, equipped with four Xbox Series X consoles, two PlayStation 5 consoles, gaming monitors, and Turtle Beach headsets, symbolizes the British Army’s commitment to harnessing emerging technologies for the benefit of its personnel. It’s taken nearly 18 months to finalise the build process, taking into account Wifinity access to the internet and equipment purchases.
At the core of this initiative lies the values and standards upheld by the British Army. The Esports Suite serves as a platform to reinforce teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking, aligning with the army’s ethos of camaraderie and collective effort. Through collaborative gaming sessions, soldiers hone their ability to work cohesively under pressure, fostering a sense of unity that transcends virtual battles into real-life missions.
Moreover, the training facilitated by the Esports Suite extends beyond
the confines of entertainment. Engaging in tactical discussions, analysing gameplay, and planning strategies cultivate critical thinking skills essential for operational effectiveness. Soldiers learn to adapt to dynamic situations, anticipate challenges, and execute precise manoeuvres, mirroring the agility required in combat scenarios.
Furthermore, the suite contributes to enhancing soldiers’ eye-hand coordination, a fundamental aspect of military training. By immersing themselves in interactive gaming experiences, soldiers refine their motor skills and reaction times, vital for navigating complex environments and handling sophisticated equipment on the battlefield.
