OBITUARY
BRIAN WARD
Honorary RAVC Association Member
Brian became involved in everything militaria at the first opportunity and lent
his organising skills equally as often, whether it be Poppy Appeal where he raised tens of thousands of pounds over the years using
his connections amongst game colleagues and many others
including street collections. Brian was a networker who brought everything together for the benefit of those organisations he became involved with.
‘His particular interest in more recent years was to serve on the RAVC Association Management Committee having been elected at the AGM becoming an honorary member which he was so proud of. His input at arranging bands for the RAVC AGM services was legion and nothing was too much trouble as he immersed wholly into the activities.
‘His support for the 151-6 Parachute Battalion Association took him out to Salty Airfield, north- east Leicestershire, for the annual remembrance
of those who were billeted in and around Melton Mowbray and who took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem) in September 1944, this battalion was the forerunner of the Parachute Regiment. He also attended the St Mary’s church services as a part
of the Friday, Saturday, event.
‘He was a long-standing member of the Royal
Tigers Association (Royal Leicestershire Regiment), attending Royal Tigers Weekends, the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) and also supported SSAFA fundraising lunches.
‘Brian’s military service was National Service in the late 1950s as a bugler. Had he taken up regular service it is safe to believe that he would have aspired to WO rank, such was his enthusiasm for shoring up with detail any task undertaken.
‘He leaves a wife, Joan Ward.’
