Sergeant Millican’s 2-Star Award: Exemplary Leadership in
Times of Mourning
Within the Defence Animal Training Regiment (DATR), is an exceptional figure, Sgt Millican, who serves as the Welfare Senior SNCO. With an unwavering dedication and profound commitment to personnel welfare, Sgt Millican stands as support and advocacy within the DATR.
In the DATR, where personnel are entrusted with the care and training of animal assets crucial to military operations, Sgt Millican’s role as Welfare SNCO extends far beyond conventional duties. While ensuring the well-being and readiness of those under his charge, Sgt Millican consistently goes above and beyond to champion their welfare.
Drawing from years of experience and specialised training in personnel management and support, Sgt Millican possesses
a profound understanding of
the unique challenges faced by military personnel. Whether it involves facilitating access to support services or implementing
strategies for stress management, Sgt Millican remains steadfast in his commitment to the welfare of his colleagues.
During the solemn period of national mourning following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, many members of the DATR found themselves in London, fulfilling various ceremonial duties.
Amidst this sombre atmosphere, Sgt Millican’s leadership and compassion became more vital than ever before. Sgt Millican swiftly recognised the potential emotional impact on certain service personnel. Taking proactive measures, he mobilised resources within the regiment to provide emotional support. His empathetic response during this period of national mourning further underscores
his exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to the welfare of his colleagues within the DATR, for this act he was awarded a 2-star award from Brigadier JD Webster.
