ACSC 14 Prize Winners 2011
Prizes awarded to members of ACSC 14 were presented at the Course Graduation Ceremony, held in the Cormorant Lecture The- atre on Thursday 14th July 2011. The Commandant of JSCSC, Air Vice-Marshal Ray Lock oversaw the event and the citations were read out by the ACSC Director Col Giles Vosper-Brown. Following the Ceremony, a lunch was held for the prize winners and their guests, and the day was concluded by a spec- tacular formation flying display by the Red Arrows Display Team.
Commandant’s Commendations
The Commandant’s Commendation is not a standing award, but is given to recognise the exceptional contribution by particular individuals to all aspects of life on the Advanced Command and
Staff Course. For ACSC 14, the Commandant awarded this commendation to five students:
The first four recipients received a copy of ‘Mad Dogs and Eng- lishmen’ by Dr Ashley Jackson, and Sqn Ldr Ruth Elsley received a copy of ‘Beneficial Bombing’ by Mark Clodfelter.

BAe Systems Prize for the Best Joint Air Student
The BAe Systems Prize for the Best Joint Air Student was presented by Mr Simon Jewell, Managing Direc- tor, Strategic Capability Solutions of BAe Systems, to the student who has shown the greatest conceptual and practical understanding of the
Air environment and the contribution it can make to joint opera- tions. The prize winner was presented the Typhoon Trophy and a copy of the book ‘Divining Victory’ by William M. Arkin; for ACSC 14, the winner was Wg Cdr Chris Mullen, Royal Air Force.

 Northrop Grumman Prize for the Best Land Student
The Northrop Grumman Prize for the Best Land Student was pre- sented by Sir Nigel Essenhigh, Chairman of Northrop Grumman UK, to the student who has shown the greatest conceptual and practi- cal understanding of the Land envi-
ronment and the contribution it can make to joint operations. The prize winner was presented with the Silver Owl Trophy and a copy of the book ‘Afghantsy’ by Rodric Braithwaite; for ACSC 14, the winner was Lt Col Robin Lindsay, The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
