Saturday 1st August saw Blenheim Company take to the polo pitches for an afternoon of organised fun in the sun. The Company
formed up with bated breath awaiting the brief of what the afternoon would entail, as well as how it would all be achieved within the confines of Covid restrictions. The brief was delivered and plenty of disinfectant and paper towels were handed out before the Platoons were sent out to battle in a round robin of Dodgeball, Archery tag, Nerf wars and Zorb football!
The afternoon was run as a competition by split- ting each Platoon into four teams. Each stand became a tournament within the Platoon, with a win earning the victors points. Matches were keenly contested but wholly in good spirit with everyone giving their all. Everyone agreed that the highlight of the afternoon was the Zorb foot- ball; the idea of the game being that two teams played football whilst wearing large inflatable rubber balls with full body contact encouraged. The games started well with the teams getting stuck in and exhibiting their football prowess. However, it was not long before the ball was entirely forgotten about and the players became focused on knocking each other over – much to the entertainment and amusement of everyone watching. One collision saw Mr Goode (2 Pla- toon) careering into the opposition goal.
By the end, when the dust had settled, the eagerly awaited points were counted. This of course meant prizes; the coveted triple podium finish went to 2 Platoon, demonstrating their exceptional commitment to sports and fierce
competitive spirit that will no doubt stand them in good stead for their later careers.
At the end of a long term cooped up dealing with many Covid-related restrictions, the after- noon was a much-needed change of routine. This allowed both Officer Cadets and Staff the opportunity to vent some pent-up energy, whilst enjoying some good weather and a chance to relax as well. The afternoon was also an excel- lent opportunity to have some social time with the Platoon away from ‘work’. This was even more important than normal given the looming challenge of RSB`s week.
The company wishes to thank Mr Caine and CSgt Botes for their hard work in arranging a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of activities, as well as the BBQ which followed it.
