St Ives Battle of Britain Commemoration Service
A commemoration service took place on Tuesday 15 September in remembrance of all those that lost their lives from both sides during the Battle of Britain.
The ceremony was attended by the Station Commander as well as deputy mayor for St Ives and the president of the St Ives Royal British Legion.
The commemoration was not the usual format as due to COVID guidelines the “rule of six” was in force. Despite this, the service was well attended by local residents, all of who observed social distancing guidelines.
The twenty minute short service included the observation of a two minute silence between the last post and the Reveille.
Huntingdon Wreath Laying Service
Wreaths were laid in Huntingdon market square on Tuesday 15 September to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Owing to COVID restrictions, the normal service had to be cancelled. Nevertheless, the event was still marked with a smaller socially distanced wreath laying service. In addition to the Station Commander, in attendance was the Mayor and Mayoress of Huntingdon as well as the deputy mayor.
2020 is also the 65th anniversary of the freedom of Huntingdon being awarded to RAF Wyton. Likewise, the usual parade through the town could not be celebrated due to COVID restrictions.
