SOLDIER FIRST SYLLABUS
VIRTUAL WEEKEND 26-27 SEP 20
Cpl K Terry 42 Engr Regt (Geo), 135 Geo Sqn
Everything was booked; training area, ammo, transportation. Then out of nowhere COVID-19 poked its nasty little head up above the parapet and scupper our plans. Or so it thought... ZOOM to the rescue.
This handy bit of technology saved the weekend and we were able to conduct our training online, covering much of the same theoretical element as planned, just without the sleepless nights, getting soaked and running around the woods.
The aim of the weekend as ever was
remind, revise and learn new skills. With the assistance of WO2 Mothershaw, Sgt Terry and Cpl Terry, Cpl Darboe and LCpl Longyear we hit the troops with some innovative learning using online methods and trying to keep them as fun and engaging as possible throughout the weekend.
The target indication lesson required personnel to use indication tools close to your home, (which included some comical random items), hand signals were taught via some very artistic stickman sketches and section
battle drills included animation to bring the point across with questions and answers throughout.
A remind and revise on orders lesson followed by sections delivering orders virtually was Sundays activity with all pulling their weight and splitting the research and delivery to give effective information to the audience.
Hopefully the next one will be out on the ground again, probably in the pouring rain!
